The take home lesson is that anything that can be digitized can be outsourced. The revolution in digital pathology is having the same effect as in radiology-a decreased need for fully staffed anatomic pathology departments in hospitals when microscopic slides can be digitized with high quality and sent to a central facility for diagnosis. Is now a standard feature of most pathology residencies.
