BOSTON — A top Boston hospital president called on her colleagues across all areas of health and medicine to put pressure on Washington for more money for the National Institutes of Health.
“It is incumbent upon all of us, as private citizens, to do that lobbying or advocacy for NIH funding,” said Dr. Betsy Nabel, president of Brigham Health, at a conference on Wednesday. “Whether you’re academics or public sector … speaking out and lobbying is critically important.”
She made these comments at the World Medical Innovation Forum, a conference hosted by Partners Healthcare, while interviewing Dr. Gary Gibbons, director of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute of the NIH, which she directed from 2005 to 2009.
