Leigh Ann Wilson hoped that President Trump would improve a lot of things in her home state of West Virginia, particularly an issue close to her heart: expanding treatment for people addicted to opioids.
Wilson lost her daughter, 21-year-old Taylor, to an opioid overdose last year. Weeks later, she voted for Trump, won over by his pledge to fight the opioid crisis by building a wall to keep out drugs — and by reforming health care.
She is not impressed with how things are going so far.

Why isn’t there more of a focus on the medical “professionals” who write the prescriptions? Yes big pharma is at fault, yes we need public awareness campaigns and rehabilitation resources but there is a large population who trust that their physicians would not be a part of the problem!
Today is my son Brendan’s birthday. However in March of last year I lost him to a heroin overdose. Like Mrs Wilson we tried every avenue to get him treatment here in Colorado. Like Taylor, Brendan was on wait lists for beds in treatment centers and suboxone. Treatment options are inefficient and stretched to the limit. Much, much more needs to be done NOW.
How stupid is this woman? A WALL was going to stop heroin? Trump’s wall was going to slow down one of the greatest scourges this country has ever seen…
If Americans can’t get heroin from Mexico it’ll get it from Afghanistan or it will resort to more and more fentanyl. Trump only worsens everything.
