A new form of a widely used opioid addiction treatment that is injected monthly instead of taken daily as a tablet was approved Thursday by the Food and Drug Administration. Experts say the eagerly anticipated new version of the drug may help patients reduce relapses, disrupt the treatment market, and possibly dispel misconceptions about the drug’s potential for abuse.
Indivior is the first company to gain approval for a monthly injection of buprenorphine. The company is best known for Suboxone, a daily formulation that combines buprenorphine with naloxone into a film that dissolves under the tongue.
“It’s potentially a game changer,” said Dr. Andrew Kolodny, co-director of opioid policy research at Brandeis University. “This could become first-line [medication] for opioid addiction. It could open up opportunities for getting more patients on buprenorphine.”

I think the injection of Suboxone is a wonderful thing & prevents patients from overusing or selling their tablets .More Doctors need to get on board with this treatment. I know many people who have successfully used Suboxone to treat their addiction & several who after long treatment are now totally drug free . Suboxone & drugs like Suboxone have saved countless lives & people need to stop thinking that it’s trading one narcotic for another . Suboxone is a safe alternative to drug addiction & unlike other narcotics you do not need higher & higher doses to maintain. Most patients stay on the same dose through out treatment until they are ready to stop treatment & then it is slowly reduced.Ive heard of very few overdoses of Suboxone when patients are not also taking other narcotics. Suboxone is a true life saver . I hope the new injection if Suboxone will come down price wise .

I have been on Suboxone strips for 10 years 16 mg.With one year off in 2016 due to the dr I was seeing up and quit.I tried my best to stay off of any kind of drugs.Well I could not due to the terrible withdraws (physical) that lasted well over a month.I feel Suboxone is way more addictive then any pain medication out there.I got back on Suboxone in 2017 and im still at 16 mg,but last month my dr ask if i would be willing to try shot?I thought about and said yes.Just because it will break the cycle of taking two strips a day.Because the hardest thing about being an addict is learning how to live with everyday stress without using.
I need a better solution instesf of of taking orally. Help me find a doctor to administer the shot. Thank you
I totally agree with you. Suboxone is almost a miracle drug in my opinion.Where other narcotics require higher & higher doses The Suboxone treatment does not require more & more & ive known many people who have successfully completed treatment & are now drug free! I also think the shot is a great idea because there is no chance of some addict stealing your meds & yes it’s great that you’re not forced to take medication every day.I wish you the best of luck!
I am in a similar boat. I have been taking one 8mg a day for about 6 years. I am in good health but I really want off these things and can’t trust myself to taper. My doctor offered this to me today when I was picking up my script.
I am seriously considering it at the least to make tapering easier and at most to get out of the habit of taking something every time I wake up and after dinner.
I’m concerned though that the shot will be more powerful than the 8mg I take per day and raise my addiction. I’d really like more information.

My daughter was in the trial she had her last injection about a year half ago. She has tested positive for bup and opiates on and off since. She also still has 2 bumps that haven’t gone away. How long will this happen
Your a nice lady.I have been using buprenorphine for 10 years and i take a drug test nearly 12x a year and I have never failed for opiates so im afraid that someone is lying to you mam. It’s impossible too fail for anything other than Buprenorphine when taking Buprenorphine.The tests look for certain metabolites and there is no connection between opiates and Buprenorphine when it comes to urine,Saliva and hair.

Desiree, the only way your daughter could have tested positive for Buprenorphine or opiates, is if she had taken them. I believe she is the one lying to you.

I am the first person in my county and my small town to try this shot and I am a heroin addict. I want to say that I am surprised this shot has helped me in every way I am now clean and sober going on 3 months. Since I’ve been on this shot I have zero cravings to use and attempted once all, it was useless didn’t ever feel a thing. Didn’t work at all. This shot is in fact a miracle.
