Listening to biotech CEOs speak on company conference calls requires a special skill.
I don’t mean merely hearing the words spoken. That’s easy enough, especially since much of what CEOs say can be thrown into two basic verbal buckets. There are straightforward facts (“We reported $50 million in sales during the quarter”) that are just cut and paste from a press release anyone can read.
Or, there are optimistic platitudes about the future of the company (“We feel really good about the strength of our business. Everything is great!”) that can be tuned out.
