SAN FRANCISCO — Andy Conrad, the CEO of Verily, the life sciences unit of search engine giant Alphabet, had some headhunting advice at the J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference last week: use Alphabet’s main product.
“I found Jess by Googling who was running the biggest trial,” Conrad said during Verily’s first official appearance at health care’s biggest confab.
He was referring to Dr. Jessica Mega, Verily’s chief medical officer, who was a top academic cardiologist before joining the company. STAT sat down with Mega and Dr. Vivian Lee, Verily’s head of health platforms, to talk about Verily’s accomplishments so far and the road to a better future for health care.
