John Maraganore, who has been the chief executive of Alnylam for nearly 19 years, is stepping down on Dec. 31, Alnylam announced Thursday. Yvonne Greenstreet has been named as the next CEO.
This is the second top executive to leave Alnylam and the third significant change in the company’s leadership in the last 13 months.
Last September, former president Barry Greene left the company to become the CEO of Sage Therapeutics. Greenstreet was then promoted to president; she was already the company’s COO. And in August, Michael Bonney became the chair of Alnylam’s board “to further enhance the Company’s ethics and compliance function and its integration with the business, in what is expected to be a temporary expansion of his role,” according to a press release.
