Angered over the way a Ukrainian court handled a legal dispute, Sanofi (SNY) has told the government it plans to seek arbitration in an effort to ensure that the nation’s courts handle cases properly.

The drug maker signaled its intent after months of confusing litigation involving a disputed contract with a vendor that supplied promotional materials to pharmacies. The back story is complicated, but Sanofi alleges that a Ukrainian judge prevented the company from obtaining documents and questioning witnesses, among other things, as it attempted to undo a ruling that froze about $1.7 million.
