The U.S. Department of Defense — and not the Food and Drug Administration — would have the power to approve drugs and medical devices under a defense policy bill being hammered out by a conference committee, Politico reports. And the legislation is alarming congressional staff and officials at the Department of Health and Human Services, who say it would undermine medical safety and potentially put soldiers at risk.
