And so, another working week will soon draw to a close. Not a moment too soon, yes? This is, you may recall, our treasured signal to daydream about weekend plans. Our agenda is rather modest, despite the extended break thanks to a holiday on this side of the pond. We plan to hang with our short people, promenade with the official mascots, and catch up on our reading and napping. If weather permits, we may even take a drive in order to gaze at the ocean. And what about you? As summer ends, this is a lovely time to not only enjoy the great outdoors, but perhaps reflect on days gone by and what may lie ahead. You could take a moment to reach out to someone special. For those feeling ambitious, you could stock up on winter supplies or place a bet on who is next to leave the White House. Novartis (NVS) and the Department of Justice filed dueling motions over the fate of a case in which the feds accuse the drug maker of violating anti-kickback laws. The drug maker argued that federal prosecutors failed to uncover enough evidence to prove their claim that the company used lavish speaker programs to induce doctors to prescribe its drugs and asked a judge to dismiss the case. The Justice Department, in turn, filed a motion saying it found at least 20 sales reps and numerous internal documents to back its claim that Novartis promotional efforts violated the law.
