After weeks of haggling, the United Nations has completed a draft declaration to address a global tuberculosis epidemic, an effort that was repeatedly delayed this summer as the U.S. and numerous other countries battled over key passages.
The détente, which emerges as the U.N. prepares for a high-level meeting on Sept. 28 about the TB epidemic, appears to have mollified concerns raised by South Africa and dozens of other countries about language that the U.S. wanted removed before agreeing to the text.
