President Trump, who has frequently dismissed the significance of the Covid-19 pandemic and rarely wears masks in public, announced on Twitter early Friday morning that he contracted the coronavirus and is now quarantined, STAT writes. Trump, who is 74 and is considered overweight, is at high risk of having a serious bout of the illness. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data, a person aged 65 to 74 is five times as likely to be hospitalized with Covid-19 as someone aged 18 to 29, and 90 times more likely to die from the illness.

Gilead Sciences (GILD) will resume control of the distribution of remdesivir as a Covid-19 treatment to U.S. hospitals, The Wall Street Journal tells us. The Food and Drug Administration had taken over distribution in May after issuing emergency authorization for the drug as a coronavirus treatment. Gilead said it has since increased manufacturing capacity and, in recent weeks, states and territories have not been accepting or needing their full allotments of remdesivir, and hospitals have not been purchasing the full amount allocated to them by states.
