Merck (MRK) has become the latest big drug maker to plan to withhold discounts from the 340B federal drug discount program. The company sent notices to participating hospitals and clinics that discounts will be ended as of Sept. 21 if claims data is not provided from contract pharmacies, unless the hospital or clinic lacks its own in-house pharmacy. Several other drug makers have filed suit against the Department of Health and Human Services over its efforts to ensure the discounts are offered.
