The Biden administration is expected to call for a third Covid-19 shot for Americans who were fully vaccinated with the two-shot regimen, citing the threat from the highly contagious Delta variant and heightened concerns over data showing initial immunity wanes over time, The Wall Street Journal reports. The announcement is likely to cover more than 155 million people in the U.S. who have been fully vaccinated with vaccines from Pfizer (PFE) and its partner, BioNTech (BNTX), and from Moderna (MRNA).
A member of the Sackler family that owns Purdue Pharma said they would not proceed with plans to contribute more than $4.3 billion to settle massive litigation over the opioid crisis unless immunity from all existing and further legal claims is granted, STAT reports. David Sackler acknowledged the family has a “moral responsibility” to help address the opioid crisis “and that’s what this settlement will do.” But he also maintained that, without receiving a global release from legal liability, the carefully crafted settlement would fall apart.
