
After nearly two years of courtroom squabbling, Gilead Sciences reached a $33 million settlement with a health care clinic in Florida in what the company called a “dangerous and fraudulent scheme” to exploit a patient assistance program for HIV medicines.
At issue was a highly complicated effort by various health care clinics, pharmacies, and lab testing facilities to illegally obtain and resell thousands of bottles of two different HIV prevention pills, according to a lawsuit Gilead filed in November 2020. The drugmaker alleged that numerous individuals and companies pocketed tens of millions of dollars in profits.
