An FDA advisory panel recommended reformulating Covid-19 vaccine boosters to meet the challenge of Omicron, STAT writes, after weighing whether to combine existing vaccines with elements that also target the BA.4 and BA.5 variants now circulating. The 19-2 vote comes as waning immunity, the possible emergence of a new variant, and the return of colder weather in much of the country make a fall surge in cases likely.
