Edward Chen is a news intern at STAT as part of the AAAS Mass Media Fellowship. Prior to STAT, he graduated with a master's in immunology from Harvard Medical School, writing a thesis on CD4+ T cells in graft-versus-host disease. He studied why certain patients got a life-threatening disease after bone marrow transplants while other patients didn't. Earlier, he did his undergrad at the University of Rochester, majoring in biomedical engineering. When he isn't writing, or thinking about writing, he's probably puzzling over a medical, scientific, and/or personal mystery of some sort.
