Natalya Ortolano was a STAT intern supported by the AAAS Mass Media Fellowship. She will be taking a break this summer from studying stem cells as a Ph.D. student at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., to report on science and health news. She has written for the American Society and Cell Biology newsletter The Post, Scientific American, and several news outlets at Vanderbilt University. When she isn’t “sciencing” or writing, she’s probably at a dog park with her pup, Roux, or playing an overly complicated board game.
