HUBweek is a weeklong Boston festival that celebrates innovation at the intersections of art, science, and technology. Join STAT throughout the festival as we partner with HUBweek to drive forward-thinking conversation within health care.

Here’s our list of events:

Women in Science luncheon

Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017
12-2 p.m.

Sponsored by:

This vibrant luncheon will highlight the insight and expertise of women in science, leading to collaboration, creativity, and advocacy in order to celebrate this generation while inspiring the next. An introduction by STAT will be followed by discussions led by inspiring women in science at each individual table.

The Silk Road

Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017
9-10 a.m.

Sponsored by:

Innovation in health care should know no geographic borders. But translating groundbreaking scientific research from the lab to its application in the developing world is complicated at best.

With this engaging event, STAT will address the experiences of a real biomedical research team from Tufts University — their successes, challenges, and goals in taking developments to a global scale — and discuss with industry experts ways to tackle the hurdles.

Cancer 3.0

Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017
11 a.m.-12 p.m.

Sponsored By:

Scientists are learning to manipulate the body’s immune response to mount targeted attacks on cancer cells. At the same time, advances in genetics and other disciplines have given cancer doctors new tools to more precisely characterize individual tumor cells and the mutations driving cancers. This is opening up a range of new treatment options, including CAR-T therapy, neoantigen vaccines, and kinase inhibitors. This panel of leading cancer experts will explore what’s ahead in cancer treatment.

Runnin’

Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017
6:30-8:30 p.m.

Alex Foster.
Kevin Sullivan.
Sean Curtis.

These young men all lived in the Boston suburb of Somerville and all died at the hands of opioids. A new STAT documentary takes an intimate look at this group of friends who grew up together, and who each fell prey to an epidemic.

In the last few years, the opioid crisis has reached new heights. What started in the early 2000s as a pill craze fueled by the pharmaceutical drug OxyContin has transformed into a national nightmare as users switch to heroin or synthetic opioids such as fentanyl. Communities all over the U.S. have been profoundly affected.

In “Runnin’,” STAT goes inside this tight-knit community, retracing the lives of these friends through the eyes of the families they left behind and the friends who barely survived themselves.

STAT would like to thank our venue sponsor, Emerson College, for helping us continue this important conversation.
