The convergence of life sciences with artificial intelligence holds promise for improving everything from medical imaging to diagnostics to drug discovery. Few are exploring this convergence more deeply or passionately than Barzilay, a computer scientist looking to revamp cancer imaging after her own breast cancer diagnosis. Last year, her group completed development of an AI risk assessment model that showed it could spot precursors to breast cancer as early as several years before the disease occurs.
