Many give back to their communities, but Perez created a way that makes it easier for others to do so. The former Biogen exec and Cubist Pharmaceuticals CEO founded Life Science Cares in Boston as a way for people in his industry to donate time and money to local organizations; LSC then distributes the funds and connects volunteers through partnerships with community groups fighting poverty and educational inequities. The effort hit new heights last year, expanding to San Francisco and San Diego. The organization awarded more than $2.7 million in community partnership grants last year.
