Vanessa Grubbs

Black Americans on the path to becoming doctors often face unjust obstacles and roadblocks. Grubbs wants to clear the way. To tackle the disproportionately high rates of dismissal for Black residents, she started Black Doc Village, an organization that supports Black trainees and physicians facing discrimination in the workplace while advocating to increase the ranks of Black doctors. An internist and nephrologist, Grubbs is also a leading voice against the use of race-based decisions in kidney care, a subject she wrote about last year as an example of white supremacy in medicine for the AMA Journal of Ethics.
